Arts

The Arts Conservatory at Village Academy provides a comprehensive program that balances a challenging college preparatory curriculum with a performing and visual arts education. For the serious student of the arts, the conservatory fosters his or her artistic talent and individual abilities.

The arts have always played a major role in the curriculum offerings at Village Academy. The results of on-going studies have confirmed that students who experience the arts as a regular part of their educational experience have greater success in all areas across the curriculum. Arts programs in the Village Academy schools begin at the preschool level and continue through the upper school years.

School staff has always recognized the student-driven necessity of providing dedicated space for fine arts and programming rich in artistic experiences for the aspiring student artist, musician, vocalist, thespian or dancer. The program offers students the opportunity to develop their artistic talents to the fullest.

The Arts Conservatory at Village Academy is a culmination of the School’s student driven focus. Although fine arts have always been incorporated into the daily course work of students in preschool through upper school, it was the students’ desire to have a greater creative outlet for their work in fine arts that led to the construction of the Conservatory. The building houses a state-of-the-art graphics lab, an acoustically designed music room, dance studios, drama studio, and an arts area that includes classroom space, a dark room for photography, a kiln room with potter’s wheel and oversized kiln, a fashion design workshop, and a woodshop. Students are introduced to the finest arts experiences at an early age and in the middle and upper school levels have opportunities to work on portfolio development in their area of greatest interest.

The arts program is cross curricular at all grade levels and teachers work together to insure the deepest level of understanding regarding the impact of the arts on the social, cultural, intellectual, and political development of societies at large.
